When to Get Married in Tuscany: The Complete Seasonal Guide to Choosing Your Perfect Moment

There is no perfect season. There is only the one that tells your story

Every year, one of the first questions couples ask us when they start thinking about getting married in Tuscany is always the same: "What's the best time of year?"

The honest answer — the one we give after 25 years of weddings celebrated in every month of the year, in every weather condition, in every corner of Tuscany — is this: there is no objectively superior season. There is only the one that best reflects the atmosphere you want to live, the style you have in mind, the emotion you want to give your guests.

This guide will not tell you "get married in May." It will help you understand what each season genuinely offers, what the real pros and cons are as we see them year after year on the ground, and how to choose the right moment for your specific wedding.

An important note: the most sought-after dates — weekends in May, June, September and October — are booked up 12 to 18 months in advance at the most popular venues. Whatever season you choose, starting early always makes a difference.

Spring — April, May, June

Spring is the season that comes closest to the romantic image many couples hold of Tuscany. The hills turn a deep, lush green, the vineyards come back to life, the fields bloom with poppies and broom, and the light — that Tuscan light, golden and enveloping — is at its finest in the morning and late afternoon hours.

April: breathtaking but unpredictable
April is the month when nature is at its most spectacular, but also the one with the most variable climate. Temperatures range from around 12°C to 20°C (54°F to 68°F). The risk of rain is real, particularly in the first two weeks. This is not a problem — with good planning and a venue that offers quality indoor alternatives, rain can become part of the story rather than an unwelcome surprise. But it is a factor to consider.

May: the most sought-after month
May is probably the single most requested month for weddings in Tuscany. Temperatures between 18°C and 25°C (64°F to 77°F), long days, landscapes at the height of their beauty before the summer sun dries out the vegetation. Outdoor celebrations are perfectly comfortable, guests are not battling the heat, and photographs are extraordinary.
The flip side: May is also the most competitive month. Weekends are booked well in advance, venue and vendor prices are at their peak, and finding last-minute availability is nearly impossible.

June: the bridge between spring and summer
June offers the best of both seasons: the freshness of spring in the first weeks, and summer energy in the second half. Temperatures climb (20°C to 28°C / 68°F to 82°F), the days stretch out until sunset at around 9pm, and the afternoon light becomes the warm, cinematic quality that defines the most iconic images of Tuscan weddings.

Spring at a glance
  • Ideal temperatures for outdoor ceremonies (12°C–28°C depending on the month)
  • Exceptional photographic light, landscapes in full bloom
  • Rich variety of experiential activities for guests
  • Note: April requires a solid rain backup plan
  • May and June: book at least 14–18 months in advance
Benedetta & Simona's advice: if you dream of an outdoor ceremony among the vineyards or in a historic garden, May and June are your season. But start looking for your venue right away — weekends are limited and fill up fast.

Summer — July and August

Summer is the sunniest, most energetic, most festive season. And also the most demanding. July and August in Tuscany mean temperatures that can exceed 35°C (95°F) in the middle of the day, an almost consistently clear sky, seemingly endless days, and a vibrant atmosphere. These are beautiful months — as long as you plan your wedding with the heat in mind.

How to manage summer heat
The secret to a successful summer wedding in Tuscany is managing the schedule. Outdoor ceremonies are never held in the middle of the day. The most effective approach: ceremony in the late afternoon (6:00–7:00pm), aperitivo at sunset, dinner outdoors from 8:30pm. This way guests are not exposed to the heat, the light is at its cinematic peak, and the celebration extends into the most beautiful hours of the evening.

The best venues for summer are those with shaded areas or with a limonaia — the historic orangeries of Tuscan gardens — where even during the hottest hours it is possible to find cool, elegant shelter.

July: peak season, often more date availability
Paradoxically, July often has more availability than May or September, precisely because many couples avoid it due to the heat. Those who are willing to plan their wedding around the temperatures frequently find excellent venues at more favourable terms.

August: the month of surprises
August is the month when many Italians take their holidays, which means some local venues and vendors may have reduced availability. But it is also the month when Tuscany's rural areas see fewer tourists, and countryside locations offer an intimacy that is hard to find at other times of year. For couples who love warmth — in every sense — it is an underrated choice.

Summer at a glance
  • Weather virtually guaranteed (rain probability below 5%)
  • Very long days: sunset after 9:00pm
  • Golden, spectacular photographic light in the evening hours
  • Note: ceremony timing must be carefully planned around the heat
  • July: often more date availability than May or September
Benedetta & Simona's advice: summer works beautifully if you plan it well. The heat is not a problem when you choose the right timings, the right venue, and the right suppliers. Some of the most remarkable weddings we have organised in recent years took place in July.

Autumn — September and October

If we had to name the time of year when Tuscany shows its finest self — visually and emotionally — we would say: September and October. This is not an opinion. It is what almost every guest who has attended a wedding in this period tells us.

It is harvest season. The vineyards transform into palettes of red, orange and gold. The light drops lower and warmer, almost cinematic. Temperatures are perfect for outdoor ceremonies — warm during the day, cool and refreshing in the evening. And the Tuscan atmosphere, already extraordinary, takes on a depth and a gentle melancholy that is difficult to describe without having lived it.

September: the golden month
September is, in our view, the most balanced month of the year for a wedding in Tuscany. Daytime temperatures between 22°C and 28°C (72°F to 82°F), cool and pleasant in the evenings. Generally stable weather. The harvest is underway in the Chianti, Val d'Orcia and Montalcino areas. Tourist numbers fall compared to summer, but the region remains fully alive.

It is the favourite month for many of the international couples who contact us — and consequently one of the most requested, alongside May. The best dates go quickly.

October: intimate, authentic, surprising
October is the least obvious month, and perhaps the most surprising. The Tuscan hills take on the full colours of autumn. The morning mist in the valleys — a phenomenon typical of October — creates almost dreamlike scenery. Venues are less crowded, costs are slightly lower than peak season, and the atmosphere carries an intimacy that is hard to replicate at other times of year.
The second half of October brings a slightly higher chance of rain, but with good planning and a well-equipped venue, it is a month that delivers genuine emotion and unforgettable photographs.

Autumn at a glance
  • Landscapes at their chromatic peak (vineyards, foliage)
  • Ideal temperatures, especially in September (22°C–28°C / 72°F–82°F)
  • Authentic, intimate atmosphere, fewer tourists
  • September: among the most requested months — book well in advance
  • Late October: have a rain plan in place
Benedetta & Simona's advice: if you love the idea of a wedding immersed in harvest colours, with red sunsets and Tuscany in its most authentic form, September is your month. Some of the most moving weddings we have ever planned were celebrated during this season.

Winter — November, December, January, February

Tuscan winter is the least conventional choice, and for that reason the most capable of surprising. The large countryside villas often close or reduce their services, but the art cities — Lucca, Florence, Siena — and properties with fine interiors transform into magnificent settings for intimate celebrations.

It is the perfect period for those seeking something different: a romantic elopement within the historic walls of Lucca, a candlelit wedding dinner in a historic palazzo, or an intimate ceremony for a handful of close friends and family in an estate with an open fire. Not the large summer celebration — something more personal, more quiet, more profound.

The concrete advantages of winter
Costs are generally lower — venues, caterers and photographers have greater availability. The art cities are free from summer crowds. And winter light, low and diffused, creates photographic images of extraordinary quality — completely different from summer images but equally compelling.
Winter at a glance
  • Venues: prioritise properties with fine interiors (historic palazzi, estates with fireplaces)
  • Costs generally lower than peak season
  • Intimate, cinematic atmosphere
  • Ideal for elopements, microweddings, vow renewals
  • Check venue availability: some close December–February

How to choose: the right question to ask

After describing every season, we want to share the approach we use when a couple asks us, "When do you recommend we get married?"

We never start with the calendar. We start with the emotion. We ask three questions:
  • How do you want to feel that day? Warm and sun-drenched, or cool and gathered?
  • What atmosphere do you want to create for your guests? Festive and energetic, or intimate and contemplative?
  • What do you want to see in the photographs in 20 years' time? Blooming vineyards, golden hills, cypress trees in the summer sun — or autumn leaves and low evening light?

When the answer to these questions is clear, the right season emerges naturally. And from there, everything else follows: the venue, the ceremony format, the timings, the aesthetic of the décor.

This is the difference between choosing a date and designing a wedding. The date is a consequence of the story you want to tell — not the starting point.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best month to get married in Tuscany?
There is no objectively best month. May and September are the most requested because of their ideal climate and landscapes at their most beautiful. But July, October and even April offer extraordinary experiences depending on the type of wedding you have in mind.

Is it possible to get married in Tuscany in winter?
Yes, with appropriate care in the choice of venue. Winter is perfect for elopements and microweddings in properties with fine interiors — historic palazzi, villa estates with fireplaces, or boutique hotels in the historic centres of Lucca or Florence.

How far in advance should I book a venue for a Tuscany wedding?
For peak season dates (May, June, September): at least 14 to 18 months in advance. For shoulder months (April, July, October): 10 to 12 months is generally sufficient. For winter: 6 to 8 months is often adequate.

Does it rain often in Tuscany during spring?
April can be variable, with occasional rainy days. May and June are generally stable. In any case, we always recommend choosing a venue that offers a quality indoor alternative — not a makeshift backup, but an equally beautiful space that can be activated calmly if needed.

When does the harvest season happen in Tuscany?
The harvest takes place mainly between September and October, with variations depending on the area and the vintage. In Chianti Classico, picking typically happens between late September and mid-October. In Val d'Orcia and the Brunello di Montalcino areas, between October and November. Getting married during the harvest means experiencing Tuscany at its most authentic and chromatically stunning.

Your season is the one that resembles you

We have celebrated remarkable weddings in every month of the year. In April under a gentle rain that made everything more intimate. In August with a sunset that looked painted. In October with vineyards ablaze with red. In December with candles and fireplaces and guests gathered close around a long table.

Every one of those weddings was perfect — not despite the season, but because of it. Because when the season reflects who you are, it becomes part of the story.
